Violent Clashes in Peru

On June 5 in Bagua province in Northeastern Peru, President Alan Garcia sent troops to breakup the peaceful protests. Indigenous people and troops clashed at a roadblock set up by indigenous leaders. This violence so far has led to the deaths of 22 police officers and perhaps more than a hundred indigenous people; but because of roadblocks and curfews, an exact number is unknown. These are only just a few photos sent from Ben Powless from the region, there are many more on his Flickr site (http://www.flickr.com/photos/powless ).
